Are You Looking For Dry Needling On Delmarva?

What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points (painful knots in muscles), tendons, ligaments, or near nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions. Dry needling IS NOT acupuncture or Oriental Medicine; that is, it does not have the purpose of altering flow of energy (“Qi”- pronounced chee) along traditional Chinese Meridians for the treatment of diseases.

In fact, dry needling is a modern, science-based intervention for the treatment of pain and dysfunction in musculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain, TMJ/jaw pain, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, knee pain, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and low back pain/SI joint pain.

How Does It Work?

A small needle is placed into the problematic tissue. The goal is to return tender, painful, inflamed, or irritated tissue back to an optimal, nonpainful, and stable state.

Dry needling works by inserting a small filament needle into muscle or tissue in a safe, targeted manner to create microtrauma to that tissue. The actual needle insertion is virtually painless, minus an occasional sensation of a very brief pin prick. The microtrauma sets off a chain of pain reducing and healing responses within your body. The effects created by the needle insertion enhance the body’s ability to reduce inflammation, stop a pain spasm cycle, and promote healing. It ultimately reduces pain and restores function in an efficient, timely manner.

Is It Safe?

How Long Does It Take To Get Results?

Typically, there is some immediate relief, however, you commonly experience a gradual improvement in symptoms over the following 1-2 days. How long these results last depends upon the condition being treated, severity, and a multitude of other variables. The total number of sessions needed for lasting results also depends on a variety of factors (such as your overall health and the condition being treated).
